About Aerospace Engineering
Aerospace Engineering is a highly specialized technical field that requires overall excellence in mathematical, calculative and observational skills and also exposes students to advanced applications of this field. Aerospace engineering involves aircraft design, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles. In addition, it also involves testing, designing the components and subassemblies for these crafts; including engines, airframes, wings, landing gear, control systems, and instruments.
The foundation level courses are Engineering Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Materials Science. These lead to a set of applied courses in Aerodynamics, Gas Dynamics, Propulsion, Flight Mechanics, Theory of Machines, Aerospace Structures, Manufacturing Processes, Automatic Control etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should students select Aerospace Engineering?
Aerospace areas such as structures, aerodynamics, propulsion and control require interdisciplinary knowledge. The field provides an excellent opportunity in computational and experimental research. An aerospace engineer learns the basics of mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electronics engineering. He has the choice of specialization in numerous areas. The airplanes and helicopters are being explored, while nowadays UAVs are being researched where flapping wing model is an attractive choice. The space exploration has been relentless. Aerospace provides new areas like fluid-structure interaction.
Overall, an aerospace engineer has well learned knowledge of aerospace applications which makes him an extraordinary professional. He can apply his knowledge in structures, aerodynamics, propulsion and control systems. They can come up with their own coding, explore the untouched mathematics, experiment in new areas like flapping wing. Finally, it gives a balanced combination of basics with advanced applications.
Is VIT Bhopal good for B.Tech course in Aerospace Engineering?
The aerospace area in India requires a thrust where we can compete in research and development of aircraft and spacecraft. VIT Bhopal is one of the best engineering Institutes in central India, offering this B.Tech course. The curriculum at VIT Bhopal includes structure, aerodynamics, propulsion, and control of an aircraft. Balancing everything with knowledge of advanced mathematics and computational languages. The institute also provides multi-physics simulation software like ANSYS and COMSOL. VIT Bhopal offers a balanced course structure, with the Introductory course taught in the second semester itself. The experimental studies will make the students learn and develop. The Institute has a vision where the extensive studies will be done in the areas of fixed-wing, rotating beam, flapping-wing and spacecraft. The emerging areas such as fluid-structure interaction and aeroelasticity will have strong research candidates from VIT Bhopal.
What is the future scope of study after B.Tech Aerospace Engineering?
Aerospace Engineering has a wide range of research laboratories around the world. ISRO, HAL and NAL are leading organizations in India. Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce and Bell Helicopter provide numerous opportunities in areas such as structures, aerodynamics, propulsion, Helicopters, fluid-structure interaction and aeroelasticity. Simulation software like ANSYS and COMSOL provide the platform for extensive computation. Many IITs provide a good platform for higher education in research.
What new courses VIT Bhopal offers to B.Tech Aerospace Engineering students?
Aerospace structures, aerodynamics, propulsion, control, material science, design optimization, heat transfer, vibrations are some of the basic courses of aerospace engineering. Along with this design of aircraft and spacecraft, mathematics for aerospace Engineers, a computational course (coding and use of multiphysics software COMSOL) will be given emphasis. Focus will be in providing computational and research facilities.
What are the future fields for B.Tech Aerospace Engineering students?
